Program Philosophy and Objectives
The Developmental Preschool Program of the Hickory Public Schools is a child-centered program. Our day revolves around your child and your family. We want our program to be an extension of your child's family. We "teach" through a learning center approach in which the teachers prepare the opportunities in the environment in the classroom so the children interact and play as they learn. No student is ever forced to participate in an activity. We match the activities available to your child's development so that he is excited and eager to play and learn. With this philosophy in mind, the following objectives guide our program:
1. To provide a warm, nurturing environment that encourages the development of the whole child.
2. To provide an environment that is based on successful experiences, which encourages all children to develop a healthy self-concept, and a positive self-esteem.
3. To offer an environment that encourages children to develop their capabilities and interests at their own pace and according to their individual needs. Offering a program which recognizes the uniqueness of each and every child provides positive encouragement for the child's continues growth.
4. To provide an environment that provides the child with the opportunity to learn by doing-moving from concrete hands-on experiences to more abstract concept development. we strive to provide opportunities for a lifetime of creative living and learning.
5. To treat all children with dignity and respect. Every effort is made to be sensitive and responsive to the needs and interests each child.
6. To observe carefully and work with parents to provide the means so individual needs can be met.
7. To provide the highest quality "educaring". Therefore, we:
